250 word essay about your online learning experience

Answers

Answer 1

In today's society, online courses are widely used in colleges providing easy access to course materials, classroom discussions, and feedback to instructors. The course materials and activities may be accessed from any computer, whether it is from the University or from the comfort of your own home. I've taken two online courses since I've been in college and have benefited from those classes. There are a few reasons to why I'm drawn to an online education course as opposed to taking courses in a traditional classroom setting. First of all, I have a full-time job, which limits my opportunities to attend classes scheduled during normal school hours. Also online classes allow me to work on my own and move at my own pace. Finally, these classes offer more of a one-on-one teacher-student relationship rather than a teacher having to spread their focus amongst thirty other students.

Having a full time job makes it very difficult to schedule your classes. The hours I have scheduled at my job conflict with the times that most classes are offered. The use of online courses has made life at work easier, since my manager refuses to work around school schedules. Since I don't have to meet on a regularly basis, I don't have to leave my job to meet on campus. It is very convenient for me not having to meet on a regular basis. When a person has to work full time, it is hard for that person to successfully juggle their job responsibilities along with homework and study. A person can always take an online course to deal with the time constraints that a job will put on you. The use of online courses allows you to cover the material needed in school while maintaining your workload.

I've learned that to be a successful distance learner, you have to be self-disciplined and able to work well on your own. Since you won't be physically going to class each week, you can take part in class from the comfort of your own home. You must be self-disciplined because the instructor won't constantly be there to remind you of assignments or of project deadlines. Other obligations may mean that you are not able to do the work as regularly as if you were physically attending class, it will be up to you to make sure that you are keeping up with all the work for the course. Also, one of the main objectives of college is to become a well-rounded individual, with the skills needed to successfully manage a busy agenda.

The first online course I took, I just thought that the work for the course could be put off until I had time to do the work. In doing this, I got very far behind. It took me awhile to catch back up with the assignments and I promised myself that I would never let that happen again. The students who procrastinate about their assignments, usually either wind up withdrawing from the course late in the semester because they have fallen far behind or receiving an "F" in the course because they have not completed the required class-work by the time the course is over. A student should leave time in their schedule in order to complete the online courses successfully. Although online classes are more convenient, than traditional college classes, they should be looked at as typical college classes and not taken lightly.

Being able to communicate with instructors and other students, that are taking these courses, has made me be a more active participant during the courses. With the two online courses I've taken, I have never felt it difficult to communicate with my instructor to ask for help or clarification of an assignment. All of these instructors and the students taking these classes have been very helpful to me. The online courses offer a discussion board to send posts to your fellow students. You get a chance to read and critique each others work and respond to the comments of your classmates. I've learned that by discussing each others ideas we are in turn challenging each other to examine our own thoughts and feelings. This makes class work more interesting as we get a chance to share personal experiences in the discussion while improving on our writing style.

Any student that is interested in taking an online course should do research on the class and speak with the instructor before enrolling. Personally, I would recommend online courses to anyone that has a busy schedule, such as having a full time job or having family responsibilities. Also, you are able to learn well by doing the required work on your own, without depending solely on interaction with other students as a means of learning. Online courses are a great alternative to the student who must hold a full-time job while enrolled in college. Online courses are not only convenient but they teach you how to become a more disciplined scholar.

The 1957 launch of the Soviet satellite Sputnik changed history—and Katherine Johnson’s life. In 1957, Katherine provided some of the math for the 1958 document Notes on Space Technology, a compendium of a series of 1958 lectures given by engineers in the Flight Research Division and the Pilotless Aircraft Research Division (PARD). Engineers from those groups formed the core of the Space Task Group, the NACA’s first official foray into space travel, and Katherine, who had worked with many of them since coming to Langley, “came along with the program” as the NACA became NASA later that year. She did trajectory analysis for Alan Shepard’s May 1961 Freedom 7, America’s first human spaceflight. In 1960, she and engineer Ted Skopinski coauthored Determination of Azimuth Angle at Burnout for Placing a Satellite Over a Selected Earth Position, a report laying out the equations describing an orbital spaceflight in which the landing position of the spacecraft is specified. It was the first time a woman in the Flight Research Division had received credit as an author of a research report.

What were the causes of imperialism?

Answers

Answer:

To understand the impact of different empires that existed during the Long Nineteenth Century, we must seek to understand three topics. The first is the how and why of "imperialism." We know that industrialized countries like Britain, France, and the United States built and ruled empires in this period. But why then? What motivated the governments and their people? What made it possible for them, at that particular point in history, to expand their authority so far around the globe?Of course, you can probably answer a lot of those questions right now, thanks to previous units. You'll remember how nationalism drove some countries to compete with each other, and one way to compete was by seizing overseas territory. Ironically, reformers–who in theory are the ones trying to make things better–sometimes actually drove imperialism. They argued that taking territories was OK, or even desirable, if the goal was to (in their words) "civilize and improve" their populations. Unfortunately, their idea of improvement was often less "how can we help?" and more "how can we change you to fit our needs?" Imperialist claims of racial superiority were also becoming powerful in this era, so colonial subjects were often treated as racially inferior.

Possibly the most important factor in the construction of new and larger empires in this period was industrialization. In the first place, industrialized countries were now able to conquer and rule other societies, especially those that were not industrialized. Machine guns and artillery obviously played a role, but it wasn't just about weapons. When only one side has steamships, railroads, telegraphs, and new medicines, they have a great advantage occupying and ruling whoever doesn't have those tools.

Industrialization also provided one of the motives for empire-building. Industry needed raw material to turn into goods, and it needed markets in which to sell them. Colonies promised to provide both. The minerals of a colony's land could be mined, its forests cut, its fish caught–all to feed the factories of the empire. Then, those factories could produce goods that could be sold to people in the colonies, who would have little choice except to buy them.

All of these motives came together in what we call imperialism. Imperialism was the set of ideas and actions that people in some societies supported in the conquest and rule of people in other societies, who were treated unevenly. It was a set of ideas and actions that were especially relevant in a few industrialized societies that built empires, but that also came to be shared quite widely during this era.

reread the three purposes that most arguments address. a) in the left hand column of the chart, record those purposes in the order in which you think Douglass was effective in addressing them, from most successful to least successful b) Use the right hand column to explain your choices?

Answers

Douglass' most efficient purpose is to show that there is no freedom in America, followed by the purpose of showing that there is a great inequality between him and his listeners, followed by the purpose of showing that the celebration of American freedom is hypocritical.

We can arrive at this answer because:

Douglass' main argument in the speech was to show that he and other blacks in the country have no reason to celebrate freedom in America. He reinforces this argument showing that it is great hypocrisy to call him to speak in this type of celebration, as this only shows how there is a gigantic inequality between whites and blacks, which is ignored by whites. He also wants to show how the idea of freedom in America is a big lie, as blacks don't have freedom and are enslaved in a country said to be the freest of all.

To reinforce all the arguments Douglass shows evidence talking about the life of slaves, the oppression to which they are subjected, and the white population's refusal to give freedom to all.

Flashes of light burst through the darkness, and wind races past my window. The thrilling combination of sight and sound conjures up visions of dragons roaring proudly, breathing fire, and soaring across the midnight sky. Dragons first fascinated me when I was a little girl. They have followed me ever since. The magnificent creatures appeared in storybooks I read in the library, paintings I saw in museums, movies I watched in the theater, and the dreams I had in my sleep. By the time I was thirteen, one question consumed me. I wanted to know if dragons ever existed, so I set out on a quest for facts.2As I started my research, I discovered many skeptics. Scientists presented evidence to show why dragons could notand did notexist. They explained that it would be impossible for dragons to fly because they would be too big. They laughed at the idea of dragons breathing fire. They pointed out that no other animal has ever done this. They said that if dragons had lived, someone would have found remains somewhere in the world. No bones about it, there were plenty of logical explanations. It would have been easy for me to accept that the only place dragons ever existed was in the imaginations of those who believed.3I could have given up, but I thought about my grandmother. She always told me that "people who believe that science is the answer to everything are missing out on everything else." With her words in mind, I searched some more. There were many facts that hinted that dragons may not be fictional. I noticed that cultures across the world all described dragons in similar ways. This was odd because they had no way to communicate with each other. I found dragons mentioned in more than just stories. They appeared in old legal papers, in the travel logs of Marco Polo, and in the Bible. I saw that the Chinese calendar uses a different animal each year. Dragons are included along with eleven real animals. I began to believe it was a real possibility that all of these people were talking about a creature that actually existed.4With renewed hope that there was some truth to the legends, I looked for new research. I found that some experts disagreed with popular arguments against dragons. They suggested that a dragon could have four stomachs like a cow. If it created stomach gases like birds, it might create enough to lift itself off the ground. This would give it the ability to fly. If it forced out air when diving toward the earth, it might release gases which could ignite into flame. When the animal died, the stomachs would release strong acids that would dissolve its dead body over time. Biologists backed up these ideas with sketches and models based on known animals. Not everyone agreed with these ideas, but many of the things we accept about dinosaurs and other extinct species started the same way.5I doubt we will ever truly know whether dragons existed. There may always be two sides to the fiery debate. Some will say the stories come from active imaginations. Some will believe with all their hearts that the legendary creatures roamed our ancient world. I don't know for certain which side to believe, but the sound and fury of a night like this makes me smile. It rekindles my childhood dreams and keeps the exciting possibility alive.Which best states the main idea of the text?
